Metro Minute at R.C. Harris plant

Lake Ontario isn’t the only water source around The Beach.

Lake Ontario isn’t the only water source around The Beach.

The R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant is a cool art deco building that has an interesting local history. Built in the 1930s, it was named after the commissioner of Toronto’s public works. Its exterior is fashioned in a cathedral-like style, with an equally elaborate marble interior. But it’s more than just a pretty façade: The plant provides our fair city with up to 45 per cent of its water supply.

See if you can recognize the plant in its side career as a film set for a number of local productions. The plant is located at the foot of Victoria Park Avenue.
