The wait is over for Haligonians looking to carve their skates into the ice of the Canada Games oval on the Halifax Common.
The grand opening was set for last week, but had to be postponed due to poor ice surface conditions. But more winter-like weather over the past few days has made everything better, with the opening going ahead today at 5 p.m.
Everyone is welcome and can bring their skates to take some laps around the lengthy surface.
The oval will be home to long-track speedskating events at the Games in February.
