The largest tree-lighting ceremony in Western Canada will be held tonight on the lawn outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. The event, in its fourth year, drew more than 1,500 spectators last year. Mike Reno, lead singer of Loverboy, joins the Vancouver Children’s Choir, the B.C. Lions, the Vancouver Giants and the Felion Dance Team in the pre-lighting festivities, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The 50-foot tree will be lit at 6:45 p.m. The event began in 2007 when Amacon decided to turn its holiday staff party into a free, public celebration. Since then, the lighting has raised $450,000 for a number of local charities, including B.C. Children’s Hospital.
