Next time you’re taking a fall stroll towards Dows Lake, pay a visit to The Man With Two Hats, a Netherlands-Canada liberation monument in Commissioners Park.
The plaque near the bronze monument —which was sculpted by Dutch artist Henk Visch — reads that during the Second World War, Canadian soldiers played a crucial role in the liberation of the Netherlands.
Through the donation of the monument the Netherlands pays lasting tribute to Canada.
An identical statue can be found near Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, with the idea that the twin monuments symbolically link the two countries in friendship.
