Metro Minute with Christmas carols

Beginning today, the sounds of the season will fill downtown Edmonton during the lunch hour.

If you are in or around city hall between today and Thursday, you very well may hear the sounds of popular Christmas carols between noon and 1 p.m.

Jerrold Eilander, a pianist with the Winspear Centre, will play the carillon with the use of a computerized keyboard. The resulting sound will be some of the most popular Christmas carols.

There are 23 bells in total, with a weight of more than 40,000 pounds, and they are located on the south side of city hall atop the Friendship Tower.
