Gus the tortoise celebrated his 88th “hatch day” yesterday at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax. Gus, who has been with the museum since the 1940s, has become one of the most popular attractions of the Summer Street Museum site. Gus was born in 1922 in Florida and grew up in a reptile park. He was brought to Halifax in 1942 and called the Spring Garden Road museum home until moving to the Summer Street museum 40 years ago.

You can visit Gus during regular museum hours Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
