Metro Minute with Molly Johnson

The white festival tent will be (figuratively) transformed into a dark, smoky nightclub of the 1930s by the voice of Molly Johnson. The jazz singer, who is compared to the iconic Billie Holiday, is the headliner tonight at the Halifax Jazz Festival.

The Toronto singer is called Canada‚ pop and jazz diva. She’s played for royalty — aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia before the Prince and late Princess of Wales — as well for Nelson Mandela and Quincy Jones. In 2008 she became an Officer of The Order Of Canada.

The 35 members of the Nova Scotia Mass Choir will warm up the crowd before Johnson’s performance.
