Metro's 7th Heaven: August 6 - 8

Metro taps what's hot right now.

Kanye Tweets
Kanye West has had verbal diarrheic outbursts before — hint: MTV Music Video Awards — but now you can read his unfiltered inner monologue all the time. West, who once said he'd never join Twitter, has signed up for the social networking site. Sample tweet from his enchanted life: “I specifically ordered persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh.”

Inception vs. The Other Guys
Will Christopher Nolan’s Inception continue dominating the box office, or is the dream thriller’s reign over? It looks like Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are set to take over the top spot at the nation's theatres as The Other Guys prepares to assault the weekend. A terrific marketing campaign, a great action-comedy premise and solid reviews give this film the makings of a hit.

A-Rod’s 600th
Alex Rodriguez is no stranger to the celebrity gossip pages since his move to New York — including dalliances with Madonna and a ruined marriage — and he has instilled outrage in his fans after his admission to using performance enhancing drugs in the past. But will all be forgiven after he joined the exclusive 600 home run club this week against the Toronto Blue Jays? Only time will tell.

Love The Way You Lie
This collaboration between the “abused” Rihanna and “recovering” Eminem helped the troubled rapper’s Recovery album sell like a bat out of hell upon its release on June 18 and it continues to top the charts. To our ears, Love The Way You Lie is one of the most powerful songs of the year with a message that smacks your senses like no other tune has for some time.

Kick-Ass
This controversial comic book movie garnered some good reviews and some scathing remarks over its gratuitous violence and language — especially in the case of pre-teen Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl. Is it funny? Or is it too much? Either way, you can pick it up — it’s out on DVD and Blu-Ray this week.

Arcade Fire's The Suburbs
Independent Canadian rockers Arcade Fire proved this week that they still have it. Their latest album, The Suburbs, already sits at No. 1 on HMV Canada’s CD sales chart.

Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock has been through a lot this year: An Academy Award and a broken marriage. Despite all this she still landed in the No. 1 spot on Forbes’ list of top earning actresses. Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston also top the list.
