Workers for the Toronto Transit Commission, Canada’s largest transit system, went on strike at midnight Friday only to be ordered back to work Sunday afternoon by the Ontario legislature. Residents of Merritt, B.C. gathered to remember three slain children as “angels,” and a pastor at the Abbotsford, B.C. church said it was a “miracle” more weren’t hurt when dozens of people plunged through an auditorium floor Friday during a concert. The mass airlift of flood-threatened residents of Kashechewan resumed, and Nova Scotia forgave $2.1 million in student debt.

Hillary Clinton said that the assassination attempt Sunday on Afghan President Hamid Karzai shows that the U.S. has failed to give proper attention to Afghanistan. The U.S. military reported that 38 militants had been killed in Iraq, clashes took place at the Olympic torch rally in South Korea, a massive train crash killed at least 66 and injured over 400 in China, and charges against comedians who breached the security of President George W. Bush posing as Osama bin Laden were dropped in Australia.

Britney Spears was reportedly recovering, and Miley Cyrus was embarrassed by racy photos appearing in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. Classic teen movies were still popular, and Grand Theft Auto IV was set to hit stores at midnight tonight.
