In an unusual move, the RCMP warned the public to stay away from two B.C. brothers saying it could be hazardous to associate with them, and Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski—who was recently seen making anti-gay remarks on a 1991 video tape—decided to stay away from Regina’s gay pride parade last Saturday. The U.S. marines made an offensive push in Afghanistan that took pressure off the Canadian forces serving there, and Halifax Regional Police made there way through a downtown schoolyard looking for clues after a man was stabbed to death. Accused Canadian pedophile Christopher Neil was reportedly in “good spirits”
as his trial for allegedly abusing a nine-year-old boy was to
begin today
in Thailand.

Barack Obama was urged not to associate too closely with Detroit’s troubled mayor, and Scott McClellan, George W. Bush’s chief spokesman for almost three years, distanced himself by saying the president should have fired Karl Rove for leaking a CIA agent’s identity. Peace talks were threatened by Israel’s plans to build 900 new homes in disputed east Jerusalem, and a new round of climate talks began in Bonn, Germany. Scientists say the world’s carbon emissions must peak within the next
10 to 15 years and then fall by half by mid-century to avoid
potentially catastrophic changes in weather patterns, a rise in sea
levels that would threaten coastal cities and the mass extinction of
plants and animals. One month after a cyclone left more than 130,000 people dead or
missing, Myanmar’s military government reopened many of the country’s
schools
.
