Hilliary Clinton moved to suspend her campaign for president while Barack Obama established a three-person team to advise on his options for running mate. In Germany, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned that further NATO expansion would sour relations, and in China engineers investigating the country’s devastating earthquake warned that shoddy construction and poor planning contributed to the death toll. A lesbian couple at a Seattle Mariners game was asked by an usher to stop kissing because, according to the report, “there were kids in the crowd of nearly 36,000 and…parents would have to explain why two women were kissing.” The
funeral of legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent drew many notable people, including model-turned-first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, actress Catherine Deneuve
and the Shah of Iran’s widow.
