According to the latest Newspaper Audience Databank (NADbank) results released yesterday, Metro Canada has reinforced its position as the most-read free daily in the country — with Metro Vancouver leading the way.
Metro Canada now reaches 1,180,000 readers every weekday and 2,552,200 weekly readers coast to coast in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. That’s more than a six per cent boost in daily readers and a six per cent increase in weekly ones from the 2008 survey.
“The Metro brand has solidified its leadership position from coast to coast,” said Bill McDonald, group publisher for Metro English Canada. “Readers and advertisers alike turn to Metro first every day for information, ideas and inspiration.”
The NADbank results reflect last fall to this past June.
At the Metro Vancouver office, it’s good news all around. Metro Vancouver led the readership percentage growth in the market, outpacing its nearest measured competitor by 3.5 times.
Publisher Maryse Lalonde, overjoyed with the results yesterday, said the findings speak to this market’s increasing appetite for a quality, convenient sound-bite news format.
“This newspaper has become a daily custom for close to 41,000 new readers every day, an increase of 29 per cent since results were last released,” Lalonde said.
“We value and thank each of our new and long-standing readers and commit to keep delivering news that matter to you.”
