MFC strips McKee of lightweight title

EDMONTON – Antonio (Mandingo) McKee was stripped of his Maximum Fighting Championship lightweight title after weighed in seven pounds over the limit for his fight against fellow American Brian (The Bandit) Cobb on Friday night.

The bout, the main event of “MFC 32: Bitter Rivals,” will now be a three-round non-title affair at a catchweight at the Mayfield Conference Centre.

The 40-year-old McKee (26-4-2) stepped off the scale at 162 pounds.

“I am extremely disappointed and incredibly frustrated by the fact that McKee missed weight by such a ridiculous amount,” MFC president Mark Pavelich said Thursday. “That’s completely unacceptable, particularly for a fighter with the years of experience that he has in this sport.”

Cobb (19-6) was a half-pound overweight.
