A South Miami man shocked family and friends Thursday when he posted a photo of his wife's bloodied corpse on Facebook after shooting her in the couple's home.

The Miami Heraldreported today that Derek Medina, 31, posted the photograph along with the comment, "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news..."

Medina went on to justify the murder by blaming it on alleged abuse from his slain wife,26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso, saying she "was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did hope you understand me."

The horrifying Facebook post elicited shock and disbelief from Medina's network, about 100 of whom "shared" the post and "liked" it.

Medina later turned himself in to police, and Facebook removed his account at the request of investigators.

According to the Herald's report, the couple's relationship showed signs of abuse and instability. The pair married in 2010 after just a few months of dating, then divorced in 2012 but remarried shortly after. Medina was painted as a jealous spouse who had complete control over Alfonso's career, relationships and conversations.

Medina reportedly told police he shot Alfonso during an argument in which she brandished a knife and threatened to leave him. Their young daughter was in the home at the time of the murder, but was unharmed.
