Microsoft to stop shipping Windows XP

As of June 30, Microsoft will no longer ship the older Windows XP to retailers and to hardware companies that make PCs, forcing an eventual switch to Windows Vista operating system.

Microsoft Corp. Canada’s Elliot Katz said Microsoft has left the XP line in the marketplace longer than it intended due to consumer demand.

Windows XP support ends on April 14, 2009, he said. Security updates for XP will continue to be made available until April 8, 2014.
