The IWK Health Centre is opening a new community midwives clinic today in Dartmouth.

The clinic is one of three new centres opening in Nova Scotia to integrate midwives into the health-care community, according to a news release from the IWK.

Midwifery became a regulated part of the Nova Scotia health-care system when the Midwifery Act was passed March 18.

There will be an open house at the IWK clinic today from noon to 4 p.m. at its location at 99 Wyse Rd.

The South Shore District Health Authority and Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority will operate the other two clinics.
