Miller inspecting sewage fixes

After meeting with city staff yesterday, Ontario Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller is holding a press conference this afternoon to talk about the city’s efforts to reduce sewage spills into the Ottawa River.

Miller called his meetings with the city valuable in helping to understand the steps the city has taken to address the problem.

“Things happen from time to time in sewage matters,” he said. “… We judge them with respect to the response. That’s what matters, that things are corrected.”

Last November, the province fined the city $562,000 for a massive August 2006 spill caused by a jammed regulator gate near Keefer Street.
