Find the right balance this season
If you want to have some real fun this season, begin in your closet. The season’s biggest trend is all about mixing and matching to create the perfect balance.
“For fall the key is to balance volume with something fitted,” says Tara Wickwire, senior public relations manager for Gap.
There are plenty of great options. For example, skinny jeans look chic paired with an elegant capelet, and a slim top balances a full skirt. Meanwhile, a slouchy sweater with slim wool pants and a white shirt can loosen up an otherwise conservative look.
“You can also balance stove-pipe pants with slim tanks and a cropped jacket in soft washed leather,” says Wickwire.
It’s a look immortalized by the Lohans and the Ritchies, but don’t ever assume that skinny jeans are reserved exclusively for those born-to-be fashionables. Anyone can get a kick out of wearing skinny jeans, as long as they know how to wear them right.
In terms of the length, they can be worn slightly scrunched at the bottom or cuffed. Or, they can easily be tucked into slouchy boots. Gap has a black skinny pant that is available in an ankle length. Some average height women are opting for this length for a cropped silhouette.
Skinny jeans are not just for skinny women. Old Navy skinny jeans range up to size 18 and are available in a range of lengths — ankle, regular, and long. Their special edition skinny jeans have a bit of stretch and are available in slimming dark washes. They look perfect paired with a blazer and a romantic blouse.
“Skinny black pants are another fall wardrobe staple”, says Wickwire. “The lean silhouette is a great match with the volumious knits of the season. They are perfect with a white shirt or long knits and flats for day and can easily transition into an evening look with heels and a silk top.”
