Halifax Fashion and Design Festival
When: Friday and Saturday
Where: Downtown Halifax
Hosted by L’Image Fashion East Magazine, the event will include fashion shows, live entertainment and networking opportunities.
There will be an outdoor runway on Argyle Street on Friday night and at Grand Parade from Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m.

QMJHL exhibition hockey
When: Sunday, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Halifax Forum
Yes, we’re gearing for the start of a new hockey season and the Halifax Mooseheads will try and work out some kinks when they take on the Saint John Sea Dogs in preseason play. It will be the first home exhibition game for the Herd.

Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer
When: Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.
Where; The Schooner Room, Casino Nova Scotia
The spirited eye patched lead singer of the group Dr. Hook has been touring around the world since the break-up of the band in 1984. Tickets are $36.50 and are available through Ticket Atlantic.

Shakespeare by the Sea
When: Friday through Sunday
Where: Point Pleasant Park

Nova Scotia’s Largest Sand Castle Contest
When: Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Clam Harbour Beach
Time to dig out your sand pails and shovels and show off your artistic ability as this popular event is back for its 32nd edition. Judging takes place from 2 to 4 p.m., with the winners announced at 4:30 p.m.

Weir Rockin
When: Saturday, 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Weir Field, Upper Sackville
Take a trip down memory lane as rockers Loverboy headline this 10-act show on the outskirts of HRM. Tickets are $30 each and are available through Ticket Atlantic. Must be 19 years or over to attend.
