Celebrate Diwali
On Sunday the Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews in Yaletown, hosts the huge celebration of light, music, dancing, and, of course, food. Runs from noon to 6 p.m., free.

The Clean-Bin Project
Watch this funny, award-winning documentary about two Vancouverites’s competition to see who could produce the least waste in a year. Screens Friday at 7 p.m. at SFU Woodward’s, 149 W. Hastings St. Tickets are $10.

Media Democracy Day
“Question. Create. Transform,” is the motto of this conference on Sunday from 12-5 p.m. at the Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch. SFU’s School of Communication and OpenMedia will present workshops on how media shape our world.

Buika and Lila Downs
Two of world music’s biggest stars Buika and Lila Downs are performing Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Chance Centre for Performing Arts at the University of B.C. The double bill is one of thee North American dates for the pair. The others are the Walt Disney Hall in L.A. and the Chicago Symphony Hall in Chicago.
