New Westminster MLA Chuck Puchmayr is recovering in the transplant ward of Vancouver General Hospital following a successful liver transplant this weekend, New Democrat Leader Carole James said Wednesday.
“Chuck still has a long struggle ahead of him,” said James in a statement.
“He’s approaching his recovery with the same tenacity he has shown as a tireless representative for the people of New Westminster.”
Puchmayr revealed on Jan. 18 that he had been diagnosed with liver cancer. He said he would not seek re-election in May in order to dedicate his energy to fighting the disease.
Puchmayr, who served nine years as a city councillor in New Westminster, defeated then-B.C. Liberal Joyce Murray in 2005.
