Re: "What is an MLA worth?" Mar. 26:

Sara MacIntyre claims that MLA salaries should not increase beyond the present $79,000. She has only one argument: the average B.C. wage is $37,000 annually. This average includes all wage earners. Some are marginal workers without high school graduation, and some are people like my plumber — who made $125,000 net last year and says he expects to make "a lot more next year." The average means almost nothing.

If we want to encourage citizens to run for the legislature, whatever their background or present income level, then we must be generous. The present MLA salary is far too low. How about going with my plumber’s salary?
