It was supposed to be a quiet subway ride to work. But Lara Brown, 30, who is three months pregnant, was robbed Sunday at one of Toronto’s poshest subway stops.
Her BlackBerry was taken from her — in what police are calling a snatch-and-grab — as she rode the subway from Wilson station toward downtown.
She says about six rowdy 20-somethings were on the train and grabbed the phone, then got off the subway at St. Clair West. Because she is pregnant and has another child, Brown, scared and shocked, let her assailants take the phone and continued on to work.
Brown said a police operator told her there have been a growing number of similar incidents on the TTC. But Toronto police media spokesperson Const. Tony Vella said he is not aware of an increase in cellphone or iPod robberies on the TTC.
