Money won’t fix hospital woes

Re: Hospital losing patience.

I don’t believe the situation at Royal Columbian Hospital (among other ERs) is unexpected or unusual. I believe these are systemic problems and that throwing more money at it won’t solve anything if practices don’t change.

ER over-crowding occurs when the continuous influx of patients is not matched by the availability of ER beds because they are full with admitted patients who cannot be placed on wards. Ultimately, the patients are the ones who suffer as well as the health care providers who become burnt out.
