The Halifax Mooseheads are taking their show on the road.
After a six-game homestand and playing an astonishing 15 of their past 18 games at the Metro Centre, the Mooseheads spend the next five games on the road, starting Friday at 7 p.m. against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Sydney.
“We’re going to have to win some games away from the Metro Centre and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said head coach Bobby Smith.
Eight of the Mooseheads’ 11 games before the holiday break are on the road, while 25 of their final 42 games overall will be played on the road.
Being at home didn’t help the Mooseheads much against the Screaming Eagles anyway. They’ve lost both head-to-head matchups at the Metro Centre, including a 7-2 embarrassment on Oct. 22.
The Mooseheads, at 9-16-1, have 19 points, one point ahead of the Screaming Eagles, 8-17-2, with a game in hand. It’s a chance to gain some separation on their Maritime Division rival.
“I’m not a big believer in (there being a difference between) home and road games,” said Mooseheads defenceman Sawyer Hannay. “A game’s a game, and I believe we can bring it just as much on the road as at home.”
The Mooseheads also visit the nationally third-ranked Saint John Sea Dogs (19-3-2) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
