Moose vets just what the doctor ordered

The Halifax Mooseheads got exactly what they needed out of their struggling veterans on the weekend.

The Mooseheads’ senior-most forwards, Charles Bety, Gerrad Grant and Travis Randell, put forth solid efforts in a weekend road split and powered their way to four goals on Saturday in a slump-busting 5-2 victory over the Moncton Wildcats.

The trio admittedly had a hard time adjusting to majority-owner-turned-head-coach Bobby Smith and had no points and a minus-15 rating during a four-game losing streak.

“We sat down with them before we went on the road and told them what we felt was their importance to our team,” Smith said.

“Those guys scored four goals, were good in the entire game, good in the dressing room … Their contribution was extremely good.”

Smith was also happy with the veterans — and his entire team — in Friday’s 3-0 loss to the P.E.I. Rocket.

The Mooseheads, 6-13-1, are tied for last in the Maritime Division. They play their next six games at the Metro Centre starting Friday.
