Mooseheads jettison Schembri for disciplinary reasons

Chuckie Schembri’s career with the Halifax Mooseheads lasted one game.

The Mooseheads sent the 19-year-old forward home yesterday for disciplinary reasons, just two weeks after claiming him off waivers from the Moncton Wildcats.

Schembri played the season-opener last Friday against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, recording an assist, but was scratched Sunday against the P.E.I. Rocket.

“We have rules and rules were broken on the road,” said Mooseheads head coach and general manager Cam Russell. “That’s how we’re dealing with matters this year. We’re not pussy-footing around here. We’re taking care of business.”

The Mooseheads were already carrying 25 players, and with the pending return of injured forward Gerrad Grant, the move doesn’t have much impact on the roster.
