The Halifax Mooseheads picked up forward Chuckie Schembri off waivers from the Moncton Wildcats yesterday.
The 19-year-old is known as an agitator and lists New York Rangers forward Sean Avery as his idol. He has spent the past two years in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, with 38 points and 313 penalty minutes in 108 games
“He’s an agitator, a pest, a physical hockey player,” said Mooseheads general manager and head coach Cam Russell. “His coach last year described him as a Chris Morehouse-type of player, a good character guy and penalty killer.”
The 5-foot-9, 166-pounder fought Mooseheads blue-liner Spencer Metcalfe in last Friday’s pre-season game.
