The number of smokers in Nova Scotia has gone up by nearly 6,000 people since 2004.
According to Statistics Canada, the number had jumped from more than 180,000 to more than 186,000 in 2009.
The statistic is based on people over the age of 12 who reported being a current smoker. The population of Nova Scotia is about 938,000.
