More mental illness spending needed: NDP

Vancouverites need to “put the pressure on” the province’s next premier in order to open an urgent response centre for the city’s mentally ill, NDP health critic Adrian Dix declared yesterday.

Speaking to reporters outside St. Paul’s Hospital, Dix accused the Liberal government of having made little progress towards implementing the recommendations of a 2008 VPL report, which characterized Vancouver as a city that “has not kept pace” in addressing the needs of its substantial mentally ill population.
