The number of Nova Scotians seeking employment insurance is up 21 per cent from May of this year to last, according to Statistics Canada.

The number has also increased in the province from 32,450 to 33,130, for 680 people or 1.8 per cent, in April to May of this year.

Alberta endured the biggest increase over the last year, where EI claims have risen 236 per cent. The province has also seen an increase of 17 per cent from April to May of this year.


Overall, Canada is on a steady incline, seeing an increase of 66 per cent in the past year and nine per cent from this past April to May.
