TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,436.42, down 30.08 points):

Turbo Power Systems Inc. (TSX:TPS). Motor innovation. Down 0.5 of a cent, or 50 per cent, at 0.5 of a cent, on 12,225,132 shares.

Grande Cache Coal Corp. (TSX:GCE). Miner. Down three cents, or 0.31 per cent, at $9.55 on 11,485,583 shares.

RuggedCom Inc. (TSX:RCM). Industrial networking. Up $6.60, or 25.14 per cent, at $32.85 on 6,249,019 shares. RuggedCom Inc. would have liked to grow on its own, but was forced to seek a White Knight bidder after a hostile takeover offer in December put the company in play, chairman Peter Crombie said Monday.

Geologix Explorations Inc. (TSX:GIX). Miner. Down 0.5 cents, or 1.64 per cent, at 30 cents on 6,206,942 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up one cent, or 0.22 per cent, at $4.49 on 5,979,563 shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down 26 cents, or 2.23 per cent, at $11.41 on 5,916,573 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,623.51, down 5.40 points):

Quetzal Energy Ltd. (TSXV:QEI). Oil and gas. Up 2.5 cents, or 35.71 per cent, at 9.5 cents on 11,277,565 shares.

Medicure Inc. (TSXV:MPH). Health care. Up two cents, or 100 per cent, at four cents on 4,620,200 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (TSX:VRX). Pharmaceutical company. Down 21 cents, or 0.43 per cent, at $48.96 on 3,315,492 shares. Valeant withdraws offer for Irvine, Calif.-based ISTA Pharmaceuticals Inc. of US$7.50 per share due to a “lack of progress.”

Catalyst Paper Corp. (TSX:CTL). Specialty paper producer. Down 0.5 of a cent, or 25 per cent, at 1.5 cents on 3,274,922 shares. The company says that one of the unions at its Crofton mill in B.C. has rejected a new contract that must be ratified as part of the company’s new refinancing plan to stay alive.The Richmond, B.C.,-based company, which has been struggling to emerge from its financial woes, said Monday that the other union local at the mill in Crofton, B.C., has voted for a new contract.
