Motorcyclist dead after collision with pickup

The driver of a motorcycle is dead after colliding with a pickup truck Monday morning just west of Calgary, police said.

Cochrane RCMP and Cochrane Fire Emergency Services were called out around 7:30 a.m. to the intersection of Highway 1A and Lochend Road (Highway 766) where RCMP said they believe a westbound motorcycle on Highway 1A collided with a southbound pickup truck on Lochend Road that was making a left-hand turn onto Highway 1A.

The westbound lanes of Highway 1A were closed this morning as collision reconstruction investigated the crash, RCMP said.

Speed is being investigated as the possible cause of the crash, according to RCMP.

The driver of the motorcycle has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin, RCMP said.
