A veteran RCMP constable was arrested Saturday and charges were laid yesterday after his wife’s body was found inside a home in an Edmonton neighbourhood.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has charged Const. Tarith Sehmbi, 36, with second-degree murder.
Sehmbi’s first appearance in court is expected to be today in Edmonton.
Clifton Purvis, a spokesman with ASIRT, which investigates incidents involving police, said officers were called to the home after 4 a.m. on Saturday to a report of shots being fired.
He refused to say how the woman may have died, adding an autopsy will be done.
Purvis also wouldn’t comment on whether police had seized a weapon in connection with the death.
Sehmbi has been with the RCMP for over seven years.
