Unable to find a compromise between educating their daughter abroad and caring for a husband’s sick father, an Iranian couple separates. The subtitles don’t detract from the slow unraveling of this family’s world as good intentions wreak havoc on the people around them. Director Asghar Farhadi proves skilled at building tension out of small moments in this film, which won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film this week. The story asks a lot of questions about the decisions we make in the
interests of our loved ones.
