A harmless story about a young Indo-Canadian striving against his immigrant family’s ideals to become a pro hockey player, Breakaway is an impressive first feature for writer and star Vinay Virmani.
Not only does he land a likeable international cast including Rob Lowe and funnyman Russell Peters, but he and director Rob Lieberman mostly keep it light-hearted with broad gags and a Bollywood musical number to maintain a fun pace.
