A multi-generational Mexican circus troupe gets profiled in Aaron Schock’s detailed and visually accomplished documentary: rather than romanticizing life under the big top, Circo simply stays attuned to its urgent, erratic rhythms. The film also works as a portrait of a country in social and economic transition, and as a consideration of the role of old-school tradition in an increasingly modernizing culture.
