An anti-meat manifesto that attempts to shame carnivores with both scientific arguments and the aggressive re-branding of vegan as a manly endeavour (as in a sequence with a granola-loving MMA fighter), Forks over Knives is by turns persuasive and irritating. Certainly, Lee Fulkerson’s documentary presents plenty of good evidence that a diet eschewing animal products promotes good health. The problem is that the facts are presented in such a slanted and ideologically rigid manner that the film will likely alienate the very meat-and-potatoes constituency it means to sway.
