Funkytown revives Montreal’s disco era with a vivid cocktail of polyester, cocaine, and tragedy. The film revolves around an afternoon disco TV show. A cast of characters all mingle through sex n’ drugs before everyone’s breezy disco dreams are inevitably crushed by hard reality in the ‘80s. It’s a world that’s been explored many times before in movies and Daniel Roby’s edition of the tale is decent, if unspectacular.
