Make no mistake, I Saw The Devil is a sick and depraved serial killer movie that sets out to disturb, and it succeeds in a big bad way. Korea has been producing arguably the best genre movies in the world for a decade and Jee-Woon Kim’s latest just might be the country’s most unsettling export yet. It’s about a serial killer who brutally murders the fiancée of a special agent, who then hunts down the killer and punishes him in ways that blur the line between hero and foe. Told with extraordinary style, what starts as a revenge thriller gradually transforms into a study of the nature of evil without ever sacrificing audience thrills. Though gruelling, there’s no more involving cinematic experience in theaters right now
