Director: Gemma Atwal
It’s hard to believe that by the age of four, an Indian orphan named Buddha Singh may have run 48 full marathons, but truth is stranger than fiction.
If Gemma Atwal’s documentary doesn’t exactly break any new ground in terms of presentation, it’s at least got an amazing subject, and she tells Singh’s complicated, at times precarious story with the right mix of observational detachment and compassion.
Marathon Boy is October’s Doc Soup 2011-12 Season opener. It’s showing Wednesday at 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. at the TIFF Bell Lightbox at 350 King St. West.
