Viva Riva

Genre:
Drama

Director: Djo Munga

Starring: Patsha Bay, Manie Malone

Rating: ***

Director Djo Tunda Wo Munga’s Viva Riva is a sweaty, earthy, blistering new crime drama shot and set in the Congo.

And while it doesn’t offer anything new narratively, the rogues gallery of gangsters and the impossibly erotic (and explicit) sex scenes gel together with style. Patsha Bay plays Angolan anti-hero Riva, a gas thief who hopes to find a better life but instead runs afoul of a crime lord he stole from while bedding a beautiful gangster’s moll. Driven by an African beat and moving at a breakneck pace Viva Riva delivers the goods in exotic, exciting ways.
