A nicely shaped sequel to 1999’s hit comedy East is East, West is West picks up the story of the Khan family — whose Pakistan-born paterfamilias George (Om Puri) spend the first film struggling with his sons’ assimilation into British society — five years later. In this instalment, George drags youngest son Sajid (Aqib Khan) to Pakistan to foster an appreciation for his heritage, but the story is really about the older man and the impossibility of having a foot in two cultures at once.
