Moxie’s Classic Grill is a chain restaurant with stylish decor, swanky washrooms and servers in skimpy black dresses. The menu is extensive and eclectic and even has a kid’s section, although I don’t think that’s the target market.
We’re here for a late lunch and settle on Wasabi Tuna Tartare ($10.99), ahi tuna tossed with wasabi aioli and served with baguette crisps, salsa, pickled ginger and puréed avocado.
It’s refreshing and tasty. My companion pretends to be shocked to learn the tuna is raw, and our earnest young server assures him that he’ll enjoy it.
The Open-faced Tuscan Chicken Sandwich ($12.99) consists of grilled chicken layered with sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, green olive tapenade, basil pesto and feta cheese, served on toasted focaccia. It’s a substantial sandwich but extremely salty.
The California Fish Tacos ($12.99) are a treat: flavourful chipotle-lime marinated cod, shredded greens, salsa and guacamole, on whole wheat tortillas with a side salad.
We don’t have too many complaints, beyond the salty sandwich, as we sip beer with our lunch and watch sports on TV.
