Mount Royal University will be honouring former students and staff who served in the military by awarding scholarships in their names.

On Remembrance Day, MRU will officially launch their military memorial project, which will provide annual endowments to students.

“We have this long-standing tradition of being neighbours ... and now we’re on the same land that all these people in the military went to,” said Vance Gough, an associate professor at MRU and a reserve officer with the navy in Calgary.

“We also have a rich heritage of people that went to school and then served.”

In total, the school will be giving 27 scholarships, each of which is worth $20,000. The scholarships will be available to students in the fall of 2011.
