A bicycle-bound mugger took an MP3 player off his victim at gunpoint early Friday morning.

Halifax police say the suspect approached the victim at about 1:30 a.m. on a BMX bike on Vernon Street near Jubilee Road.

He struck the victim in the face and pointed a handgun at him, demanding his music player.

The player fell to the ground as it was being handed over and the victim took advantage of the distraction and fled.

The suspect is described as a white man, 6 feet tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a blue or black hankerchief over his face.
