Murdered teenager remembered by friends, family and community

A 17-year-old boy is dead after being shot in Surrey early yesterday morning.

Adem Aliu was found wounded by police officers responding to a 911 call of shots fired near 103 Avenue and 142 Street at approximately 3:25 a.m.

Sgt. Peter Thiessen said Aliu died of his wounds before being taken to hospital.

“It is not clear whether this was a targeted or random shooting,” Thiessen said in a release. “It does not appear to be drug or gang related.”

K. Waters, who did not want her first name used, said her son attended school with Aliu. She remembers him as a young man with “so much promise” and that Aliu’s friends are hurting.

Thiessen added that investigators don’t believe this latest killing is linked to Monday morning’s fatal shooting of Harchie Tupas Onas, 31, in Burnaby.
