N.S. leads rise in vehicle sales

New car sales were up across the country in September, with Nova Scotia leading the way.

Statistics Canada reported strong truck sales were the main contributor as the number of new vehicles sold nationally rose 4.2 per cent to 134,845 in September.

Nova Scotia had the largest percentage increase in the country at 8.8 per cent. Ontario was next at 6.8 per cent.

John Sutherland with the Nova Scotia Automobile Dealers Association said he believes the sale increase was a rebound to the HST increase that took effect in July.

He said he believes people put off buying in the summer because of the increase and now are out shopping.
