HALIFAX - Nova Scotia has a new protected wilderness area near Halifax.

The
Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area is made up of 14,700 hectares of
old forest, wetlands, raised bogs, and numerous lakes and waterways.

This new wilderness area is part of the province's commitment to protect 12 per cent of Nova Scotia's land base by 2015.

Raymond
Plourde of the Ecology Action Centre says the area is a “wilderness
gem” and one of the last large, pristine wilderness areas in the
province.
