A Washington State newspaper has sparked debate about the possibility of changing the name of Vancouver, Wash., to Fort Vancouver.
Reverting to its original moniker, a columnist with the Vancouver Columbian suggests, would help to avoid the confusion of having two Cascadian cities with the same name.
Vancouver, Wash., located on the north side of the Columbian River near Portland, Ore., is about one-fourth the size of Vancouver, B.C., and is on the cusp of a civic election. The column said that several of the candidates would be open to renaming the city.
Three times in the past, residents of Vancouver, Wash., have voted to reject changing the city’s name.
